GamingBolt: 7 / 10 by Varun Karunakar

Disgaea Mayhem is light, breezy, and charming, but that isn't enough to overcome the nagging feeling that it could have been a lot more than it currently is.

Cubed3: 5 / 10 by Coller Entragian

Disgaea Mayhem is so close to being a decent game. It's held back by the most mindless and unimaginative battles ever conceived in a Dynasty Warriors clone. There are no generals to protect or outposts. No compelling winning or losing conditions. There aren't even that many foes to beat. The only thing N.A. has to do is slap around 100 cartoon monsters, and he's won. The core Disgaea elements work perfectly for character progression, and even the staple democratic features remain fun and make sense in Mayhem. However, the lacklustre presentation, barren gameplay, and lifeless combat keep it from meeting the standard of quality. At least it was over quickly.

Gaming Boulevard: 5 / 10 by Toon Borremans

Disgaea Mayhem is an attempt to create a Musou-style fighting game in the Disgaea universe. The story captures the whimsical DNA of the main series to the fullest, but the gameplay feels lackluster. Battles feel repetitive and button-mashy, especially because you have to play every map four times without any change to the gameplay. Since you can get strong quickly, you don’t really need to engage with the side modes. Truly a shame, because waging large-scale war as an Overlord with demon armies could be so awesome, dude!

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Lack of Character Variety: Users expressed disappointment over having only one playable character, with many calling for more playable characters or companions.

  • Voice Acting and Narrative Depth: Many reviews noted that the absence of voice acting during battles and the relatively simple narrative detracted from the overall experience.
  • More Customization Options: Users wished for more customization in terms of weapons, skills, and character stats, feeling that the current system was too simplified.
