An action game with roguelike and metroidvania elements by indie French studio Motion Twin. During the game, you explore a grim castle, whose elements (such as chambers, cloisters, and sewers) are procedurally generated. Given the permadeath system, it means that each new gameplay is a fresh experience, during which you can discover new parts of the fortress. An important aspect of Dead Cells is combat, which is very difficult. To succeed you have to work out the patterns of the enemies' attacks and to get the protagonist to a high enough level. In combat you use melee and ranged weapons, as well as offensive and defensive magic. The game features pleasant 2D pixel-art visuals.

Oddworld: Soulstorm is another game in the popular platform-adventure game series developed by Oddworld Inhabitants Inc. and Frima Studio. The game is a direct sequel to Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, a 2013 remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, and is loosely based on Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus. Once again, we control Abe, a friendly Mudokon who managed to escape from the Glukkon's grip, and now leads three hundred of rescued Mudokons into the unknown. Our hero and his companions travel across the endless desert and face shortages of food and water. They find relief in a certain addicting brew. Gameplay in Oddworld: Soulstorm did not change that much since the first 2013 New ‘n’ Tasty. It is still a 2.5D platform-adventure game where we have to rely on Abe's and his fellow Mudokons' abilities. The game, however, is a bit darker in terms of stylistics.

A platformer game by Tarsier Studios. The player assumes the role of Six, a heroine who was kidnapped by monsters and locked in an underwater complex called The Maw. Her task is to escape this terrifying place which is difficult because of dangers, inspired by childhood nightmares, that lurk behind every corner. In Little Nightmares, the action is presented from a side view and the core of the gameplay is searching the atmospheric locations, hopping from platform to platform, and solving environmental puzzles. Given that the protagonist is equipped only with a lighter, we have to avoid direct confrontation with nightmarish opponents and try to sneak past them unnoticed. The title boasts high-quality three-dimensional graphics and is distinguished from among other platformer games by its dark style and toned-down colors.

Hollow Knight is a 2D metroidvania game developed by the indie studio Team Cherry. The game takes us to a fantasy underground world located bellow the city of Dirtmouth. The place attracts numerous adventurers, who disappear without a trace when they enter it. We play as an adventurer who decides to face the challenge and find riches, fame, and the answers he is looking for in that underground world. The game is presented from a side-scrolling perspective. Gameplay focuses on the exploration of vast locations, leveling and progressing our character, finding more and more powerful equipment, and fighting with the encountered enemies. During our exploration of the underworld, we will find not only many traps and dangers awaiting us, but also some friendly NPCs that will aid us with their knowledge or useful items.

In addition to the single player mode, Starbound offers the ability to play with other people (via Intertnet) in competitive or cooperative modes. The first installment in the Assassin's Creed Chronicles series of spin-offs, created in the form of a 2.5D adventure platformer. The game was developed by Ubisoft as a bonus for users who bought the season pass for Assassin's Creed: Unity. The game is set in the sixteenth-century China, and the players assume the role of female assassin Shao Jun – a student of Ezio Auditore and the protagonist of the animated film Assassin's Creed: Embers. Being the last survivor of the Order's Chinese subdivision, she returns to her homeland with the intention of avenging her murdered brother. During the journey she meets a number of historical figures and visits several famous locations of China, including Beijing, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City. Gameplay mechanics are a translation of the usual gameplay into a side-scrolling platform game. We can climb, sneak, fight, and kill silently. The production features an original graphic style, inspired by traditional Chinese painting.

They combine the necessity to solve various puzzles with tasks requiring reflexes and good manual skills. The game takes place in a dark universe where the rain never ceases to fall. The visuals of the game are similar to the ones used in the previous bestselling game developed by PlayDead studio. However, this time the world is three-dimensional. The colors in the game are toned down and the music is atmospheric. The game was created by using the popular, multi-platform Unity engine.

A two-dimensional action game with designs resembling old cartoon movies, which is a debut production of StudioMDHR, an independent developer. In Cuphead, we assume the role of a gambling addict that loses his soul to the devil during one of his sessions. To retrieve it, he needs to work off its equivalent. When it comes to mechanics, the game is a 2D fighting game with a degree of platforming elements – we participate in continuous 1v1 fights, taking place on special 2D arenas. During combat we can make use of a wide range of weaponry, as well as several outfits bestowing us with special powers. Each of the enemies has his own fighting style, which needs to be countered in order for us to win. In opposition to the genre classics, our enemies are controlled by dynamic AI, making the game tough to beat and less predictable in case of replays.

A classic two-dimensional platformer game developed by Broderbund Software. The game set the direction for the genre, and many later platformers were trying to follow it. The player assumes the role of the eponymous Prince of Persia, whose task is to rescue a beautiful princess held by the evil vizier Jaffar who has kidnapped her in order to take over the kingdom ruled by her father. Unless the princess decides to marry Jaffar, she will die. The protagonist has only an hour to free the princess who is being held in the dungeons under the palace. In the game, the protagonist traverses nearly three hundred chambers filled with different traps and armed guards. The gameplay is diversified with puzzle solving and the already mentioned time limit, requiring the player to develop their skills in order to make a progress. The game offers relatively simple visuals, but it stands out with exceptionally realistic character animations. The action is displayed in the classic side-view camera angle, and the game features Middle East-inspired music.

Child of Light is a 2D RPG that combines the elements of modern platformers and Japanese role-playing games. Child of Light tells the story of Aurora, a young girl who has to save the kingdom of Lemuria. When playing, we influence Aurora's development and witness her rough journey to adulthood. The game is presented in a perspective typical for platform games, and the turn-based combat system is inspired by the jRPG genre. During her adventures, Aurora explores a vast, living world, where she encounters friendly fairies, gnomes, and sneaky monsters. Child of Light offers single player and multiplayer modes. In the latter, the second player takes on the role of a friendly firefly.

As the game progresses, due to the extensive crafting system, you discover better tools, allowing you to create advanced materials and to fight monsters. There are many possibilities in the game, and the only restriction is your own imagination. Terraria features a single player mode, but you can join forces with other players, thus gaining precious allies, who can help you with the more challenging tasks.

A two-dimensional adventure game with platformer features from the independent Polish team at Juggler Games. It takes players to a fictional city ruled by the Evil King and his army of robots. Certain districts have been separated from others by a high wall, and this ghetto is used to contain the so called “worse part of society”. The players take control of two kids trying to survive in the cruel new reality. My Memory Of Us uses side-view camera angle to present the world, and the controlled duo must support each other to overcome all obstacles and solve all puzzles. One of the game’s selling points is a simplified dialogue system based on symbols, as well as its setting being inspired by actual life in Poland under German occupation during World War II, especially inside Jewish ghettos. It also stands out with the monochromatic colors of its visuals.

An expanded edition of the warmly received platform game developed by Moon studio in 2015. The story of Ori and the Blind Forest focuses on the titular spirit of the forest who is trying to learn something about itself and the world that surrounds it. The game lacks any dialogues and the story is told by using the gameplay and mute cutscenes. As for the mechanics, the game belongs to the subgenre called metroidvania. During the game player explores large, two-dimensional locations that contain many hidden passages, shortcuts, secrets, surprises and action challenges. As the game progresses, player unlocks new abilities of the protagonist that allow him to reach previously unavailable places. Definitive Edition offers 4 completely new locations, new abilities, music tracks and various improvements suggested by fans. Among the latter there are additional difficulty levels and a quick travel system.

Rogue Legacy 2 is a 2D platformer with RPG and roguelike elements. The player explores a randomly generated world, and after the death of the character, the adventure continues with its descendants. Between the expeditions we can improve and expand our own residence.

An action 2D platform game starring a sympathetic creature of a protagonist. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and is the fifth full-fledged installment in the series created by Michel Ancel. This time the titular protagonist and his friend Globox must face nightmares which have created amazing worlds during the 100 years they have spent in the Crossroads of Dreams. Rayman must also free the Teensies captured by the clone of the deceptive Magician. Gameplay mechanics and the visual style of Rayman Legends are similar to the mechanics and style of the previous Rayman game (Rayman Origins). The new features in the game include musical levels and a system that allows other players to freely join the game in split-screen cooperation mode.
